Somewhere out there, someone decided to nominate Unpaved Roads in the Homeschool Blog Awards for Best Blog Design. I don’t know who it was, but whoever you are, thank you. I’m honored and humbled that there’s something about this little blog of mine you felt was worthy enough to nominate.
I don’t share a lot about our homeschooling adventures here. It’s not because I don’t love it (I do!) or because it’s not a huge part of my life (it is!), it’s just not an area I’ve felt compelled to share too much about. When I look at the homeschool landscape across the vast area of the internet, there are so many resources, choices, voices, opinions…so many out there doing it longer, bolder, better…the “unschoolers” are loud and proud, the conventional homeschoolers are expert, the Christian homeschoolers are experiencing holiness every day…
Me? I don’t really fit into any of those categories. I’ll never be the super-mom, the scheduled-mom, the holy-mom, the funny-mom or the bold-mom. I’m the mom who can’t keep a schedule to save her life, the mom that takes weeks to find her lost car keys, the mom that always, always has late fees at the library despite the fact that you can renew them online…the mom that stays up too late, wakes up too early, drinks too much coffee, and perpetually feels (when I stop long enough to think about it) that everywhere else in the world, everyone else is doing it far better, far faster.
I’m just me, Wendy, still finding what works and what doesn’t for each of these amazing people I have the privilege of rearing, still learning as much (if not more) from them as they are from me. Our unpaved homeschool road is an uncategorized way to live and learn, and I’m good with that.
So yeah, I’m pretty shocked that anyone would nominate this blog for any kind of homeschool award, even for blog design. That in itself is a recognition I am humbly honored to receive. Thank you so much.
